Resilience Workshops with Veterans - Blesma Community Programme

Posted on 3rd May

There was a fantastic Resilience Training Workshop delivered by a wounded veteran, Simon Harmer and his colleague Lilly from the The Blesma Community Programme. It was excellent and will definitely have a lasting impact on our learners. They were still discussing the workshop into the afternoon and for the rest of the week. The training enabled them to have a first-hand insight about how to cope and to appreciate being able-bodied.

Their understanding of the word ‘resilience’ and the correct use of it has enabled this understanding to be developed.

The thoughts from our leaners were – how is it still possible for Simon to live an active life, how is he still able to swim and be sporty. Also the fact that Simon had a near death experience, but returned back to some sort of normality.

In our curriculum we have been discussing topics that have incorporated the topic touched on in the workshop delivered by Simon et al. We have been discussing survival issues – Plane crashes, Desert Islands and how to survive in a PRU!

We very much look forward to working with The Blesma Community Programme in the future.
