Drama workshop – (Lord of the Flies) and special effects makeup workshop

Posted on 10th Jul

A special thanks to K Matthews, R Bevan and S Bevan for engaging KS3 learners on Tuesday, July 3rd 2017 in the Drama and special effects makeup workshops.

P2 – Visual prep (masks, gory makeup, prop making, costumes)

Students played different games, learnt different drama skills and non-contact fighting techniques. This enabled our learners to be equipped with acting out a scene from Lord of the Flies later on in the day.

The “highlight” was the special effects makeup workshop run my S Bevan - visual prep (masks, gory makeup, prop making, costumes).  Staff and students picked up a brush or two, along with dry blood and other makeup, to create realistic injuries which included: black eyes, scars and cuts.

This workshop gave our learners an insight of how makeup artist can make injuries to look so real and convincing.

Before lunch students and staff performed a scene from Chapter 9, Lord of the Flies – the animalistic murder of Simon using all the techniques learnt during the day

“the makeup looked realistic, it looked like I had a black eye for real!”

“I enjoyed the games and learnt how to fight without touching someone”

“I am going to scare my mum with my injury…but then tell her it’s fake”

“the teachers taught us everything we needed to know to act!”
