Trip to the London Dungeons

Posted on 2nd Oct

The trip to the London Dungeons as part of KS3 English project exploring the genre of horror story writing and the study of Victorian gothic novels was a great success. Some of the pupil comments:

“I was petrified throughout but I learnt a lot about history and I think my English story will be really scary as the place was horrifying and so my story will be.” Chloe

“The best bit was the boat ride, it was pitch black and we got sprayed with water and went backwards and forwards. Everyone was screaming. It must of actually been like that on the river at night without any lights.” David

“I liked the bit where we were in the Great fire of London, the special effects of the smoke, red lights and the shaking room, made it scary, I was just like being in a real fire”. Charlie

“I think I am going to write about the torturer, that was the best bit, when he showed us all of the implements that they used to use to get information from criminals. The actors were funny but the torturing was horrid.” Marcus

“The Plague hospital bit was frightening, I thought there were actual slugs on me. They used the slugs to try and suck out the bad blood or they cut your writs, either way you died. This kind of hospital, the room, the costumes and the makeup would be a good base for a horror story.” Gabby

“The Jack the Ripper bit was good. When the lights went off and the strobe lighting came on the woman moved and made the man jump. Then the smoke came through the windows and the rattling and knocking sounds happened and the lights just cut off. When they flashed on there was Jack the Ripper and when the lights came back on he was gone.  People were scared and screamed. I could use light, sound and smell descriptions…well all of the senses in my story to make it frightening.” Jaidel
