London Youth Voice

Posted on 6th Jun

Blue Hut students Briah and Monique were invited to Google Headquarters to participate in a community planning workshop called London Youth Voice. The workshop centred around current youth issues like knife crime, gangs, county lines, child sexual exploitation and more. They were there representing the voices of Hackney PRU students. Organisations such as Edukit, MOPAC, Trident and Ofsted wanted to hear from young people as they are the one group who are most affected by these issues, but with the least say in addressing and identifying solutions. This week’s workshop will lead to the students facilitating a safeguarding conference in central London later in the year. Delegates to be invited will include individuals such as Sadiq Khan - London Mayor; Sophie Linden - The Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime; Victoria Atkins MP - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Crime, Safeguarding and Vulnerability; and Mike Sheridan - Regional Director OFSTED. Briah and Monique had lots of thoughtful opinions and dynamic solutions for these issues. They were articulate and mature and did Hackney PRU students proud.
