Barbican Project

Posted on 8th Feb

The Girl’s Group have been participating in a 6 week Barbican Art Box programme. They have been thoroughly involved and engaged in the project throughout. The Barbican visit was curated and led by publishing collective One of My Kind (OOMK) whose manifesto and publications champion the art, ideas and activism of women.  The project drew inspiration from the exhibition Modern Couples: Art Intimacy and the Avant-garde, making links to artist couples and collectives whose collaborations gave birth to ground-breaking new movements and manifestos within the art world.

Holly Casio, practicing artist, then lead 2 workshops at NRC looking at the idea of zines, radical DIY publishing, collage, and manifestos.

The group created a collaborative manifesto, partly inspired by the OOMK manifesto, as well as developing ideas around the radical nature of zines.

This project will ultimately be included in a Barbican Art Box publication and will be on sale in the Barbican Book Shop.
