Physical Education (P.E)
Physical Education at New Regent’s College plays an enormous part in our engagement with the pupils. Providing pupils the opportunity to participate in a variety of physical and sporting activities. Pupils develop their abilities and confidence to perform as individuals in groups and in teams.
Physical Education at New Regent’s College promotes positive attitudes toward a healthy and active lifestyle and gives pupils the opportunity to make choices about how to get involved in lifelong physical activity.
Rowing
With the support of The Worshipful Company of Vintners we have been taking a number of pupils to the Royal Docks for weekly rowing sessions with London Youth Rowing. It has been a mayor success as pupils on the course are able to explore and develop leadership skills, mental strength and resilience through the means of rowing and all the challenges they face within a strange and unknown environment.
Wall Climbing & Wheelchair Basketball
We are also with the support of Young Hackney doing different types of sport where team work and mutual respect is vitally important. We are doing wall climbing and wheelchair basketball with the Forest Road Youth Hub team. These individual sports have taught our pupils to appreciate differences between peers and to treat everyone equally.
Cycling
Cycling club Hackney also delivers cycling sessions where each pupil are able to challenge themselves through a number of events as performed by elite cyclists. We also had the opportunity to visit the Velodrome and their incredible facilities on offer.
Sky Sports Living for Sport
We are also part of the ‘Sky Sports Living for Sport’ programme. We have had elite athletes/ mentors visiting the school, delivering sessions on specific elite sports and the six keys to success which were developed in partnership with the British Athletes Commission.
The six keys to success were:
- Mental toughness
- Hunger to achieve
- People skills
- Sports and life knowledge
- Breaking barriers
- Planning for success
Physical Education
We also cover many other sports within school ranging from Basketball, Football, Rugby, Table Tennis, Rounders, Dodge Ball, Fitness, Ultimate Frisbee, etc.
